Slovenian keeps a dual, a separate form for exactly two of something. One friend is prijatelj, two are prijatelja, and three or more are prijatelji. Verbs follow, so the two of us go is midva greva. A script that uses the plural for two people sounds wrong at once, so check every line where two people or things appear.

Spelling leaves out stress and the difference between open and closed e and o, so the voice relies on what it knows of each word. A final l often sounds like a short u, as in bil, and v before a consonant does the same. Numbers put the unit first, so 25 is petindvajset. Write dates with points and spaces, as in 25. 6. 2026.

Use vi for customers and anyone you do not know, and ti for friends, children and relaxed clips. Slovenian has many strong dialects, but narration and adverts use the standard language, so write knjižna slovenščina even for a local audience. Preview English brand names and add any misread one to the pronunciation dictionary.

No, though the names confuse people, even in the languages themselves: Slovenian is slovenščina and Slovak is slovenčina. Slovenian is a South Slavic language spoken in Slovenia, close to Croatian. Slovak is West Slavic and close to Czech. Choose the Slovenian voices on this page.

They will read it with Slovenian sounds, which a Croatian or Serbian listener would notice. The languages share many words, but spelling, endings and vocabulary differ. Croatian uses ć and đ, which Slovenian lacks, and only Slovenian keeps the dual. Use the Croatian or Serbian page for those audiences.
