Catalan marks stress and vowel quality with accents that point both ways: à, è, ò and é, í, ó, ú. The direction matters, because è is an open sound and é a closed one. Some accents also separate words, as with més (more) and mes (month), or són (they are) and son (sleep). Check pasted text, since some tools strip accents.

The punt volat joins a double l: col·legi, il·lusió, intel·ligent. Type the raised dot rather than a full stop, which would split the word. Keep apostrophes in l'escola and d'aquí, and contractions such as al, del and pel. Unlike Spanish, Catalan does not open questions with ¿ or exclamations with ¡.

Catalan is spoken in Catalonia, Valencia, the Balearic Islands and Andorra, and vocabulary shifts between them. A Valencian audience may expect xiquet where Barcelona says nen. Write dates as el 23 d'abril and decimals with a comma (2,5). Preview Spanish and English brand names, and fix any odd reading in the pronunciation dictionary.

Yes, on a paid plan: paid plans include commercial rights, and the Free plan is for personal and evaluation use only. Starter costs $5 for the first month, then $19 a month.

Preview the line first. If a number, date or abbreviation comes out wrong, write it the way it should be spoken, or add it to the pronunciation dictionary, which is on every plan. One entry fixes that word across the whole project.

No. Catalan is a separate Romance language with its own spelling, grammar and sounds, and it sits closer to Occitan than to Spanish. A Spanish text will not turn into Catalan by choosing a Catalan voice. Write or translate the script into Catalan first, and use the Spanish page for Castilian scripts.

Valencian is the name used in the Valencian Community for the same language, with its own standard set by the Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua. Most Valencian text reads well, but local words and pronunciation habits differ from those of Barcelona. Preview your actual script and listen for the accent before you commit to a long recording.
