Follow the standard spelling in the Afrikaanse Woordelys en Spelreëls, the reference schools and publishers use. Type the marked letters properly: wêreld, môre, reën. A missing mark can change the word itself. "Jan se boek" uses the possessive se, while "sê" means to say.

Afrikaans negation comes in pairs: "Ek weet nie wat hy wil hê nie." The second nie closes the sentence. When you cut a long line down for a voice over, check that both are still there, because a sentence that loses its closing nie sounds wrong to any Afrikaans listener.

Everyday Afrikaans borrows freely from English, so decide how much to keep. A school or church recording might say selfoon and rekenaar; a radio advert for a younger crowd can say cellphone and laptop. Preview English words and brand names, and if one is read the wrong way, add it to the pronunciation dictionary.

Yes. The Free plan costs $0 and includes every voice, with a one-time allowance of 2,500 credits, about 2,500 words. It is for personal and evaluation use.

Yes. Afrikaans has 1 male and 2 female voices. Use the gender filter above the voice list and try a few with your own first line.

Yes, on a paid plan: paid plans include commercial rights, and the Free plan is for personal and evaluation use only. Starter costs $5 for the first month, then $19 a month.

Preview the line first. If a number, date or abbreviation comes out wrong, write it the way it should be spoken, or add it to the pronunciation dictionary, which is on every plan. One entry fixes that word across the whole project.

No. Afrikaans grew out of Dutch, but its spelling and grammar have moved a long way. Verbs do not change with the person, so it is ek is, jy is and hulle is, and many Dutch spellings look odd to Afrikaans readers. Write your script in Afrikaans, choose an Afrikaans voice, and preview it.

Write them the way people say them. "Half drie" means half past two, not half past three, and "kwart oor sewe" is a quarter past seven. Writing the words leaves no doubt about which time you mean. If a clock time in figures is read oddly, respell it or add an entry to the pronunciation dictionary.
