These voices speak the Portuguese of Portugal. European Portuguese swallows many unstressed vowels, so it sounds quicker and more closed than Brazilian speech, and its vocabulary differs too: comboio, autocarro and telemóvel rather than trem, ônibus and celular. Write the words a reader in Portugal would use, and the voice will sound local.

Accents decide both meaning and stress. Avó is grandmother and avô grandfather; pais means parents and país country. The grave accent marks a contraction, as in vou à praia. The tilde nasalises a vowel, so pão and mãe must keep it. Watch for text copied from a Brazilian source, which may spell some words differently, such as facto in Portugal against fato in Brazil.

Use a comma for decimals (1,5) and a space or a point for thousands. Dates go day first, as in 25 de abril, and times are often written 18h30. Register needs care in Portugal, where você can sound abrupt. Formal copy often uses the verb alone or o senhor and a senhora, while many brands now write tu. Brand names deserve a listen, and the pronunciation dictionary can fix one.

What people make with Portuguese voice over

Tours of Lisbon, Porto and the Douro

Narrate tram routes, walking tours and river cruises, and update a single stop when a viewpoint closes or the route changes.

Festival and seasonal promotions

Voice in-store and social messages for the June Santos Populares or the Christmas season, then change only the dates the following year.

Phone menus that sound like Portugal

Write greetings and menu options for clinics, shops and town halls in European Portuguese, so callers hear paragem and telemóvel, not Brazilian words.

Lessons for schools and universities

Turn course notes into narration for students in Portugal, with the same voice across a whole module so it sounds like one teacher.

European. The voices on this page use the pronunciation of Portugal, with its closed, clipped vowels. Brazilian Portuguese sounds very different, with open vowels and a slower rhythm, and it has its own vocabulary and some spellings of its own. Listeners notice the difference at once. For a Brazilian audience, open the Brazilian Portuguese page in the list above.

Yes, for most scripts. Schools, newspapers and public bodies in Portugal now follow it, so ação replaces acção and ótimo replaces óptimo. The dropped consonants were silent, so the voice says both versions the same way. What matters most is consistency, so pick one spelling and keep it across the whole script and the on-screen text.
