Choose Bengali from India when your listeners live in West Bengal or Tripura. The script and grammar match Bangladeshi Bangla, but the accent and many everyday words differ. A Kolkata script says জল for water, স্নান for a bath and নেমন্তন্ন for an invitation, and it opens with নমস্কার. Festival lines follow Kolkata habits too: শুভ নববর্ষ on Poila Baishakh and শুভ বিজয়া after Durga Puja.
Bengali reads the hidden vowel after a consonant as a short o, and often drops it at the end of a word, so কলম sounds like kolom. The spelling does not show which, so preview new words. Long surnames are worth a listen as well. বন্দ্যোপাধ্যায় and চট্টোপাধ্যায় are often shortened to Banerjee and Chatterjee in English, so pick one form for the script and keep it.
Kolkata speech takes in English freely: ক্লাস, টিফিন, অফিস and ফ্ল্যাট are ordinary Bengali now. Write such words in Bengali letters, and keep brand names in Latin letters. Many West Bengal publishers follow the newer spelling with ি, as in সরকারি and দেশি, while older books print সরকারী. Pick one style. If a name or brand is misread, add it to the pronunciation dictionary once.

The script and grammar are the same, and speakers on both sides understand each other with ease. The differences are in accent and in everyday words. Kolkata says জল and স্নান where Dhaka says পানি and গোসল, and greets with নমস্কার more often. Pick these voices for listeners in India, and the Bangla page for listeners in Bangladesh.
Yes, and most Kolkata ads do. Words that have settled into Bengali, such as অফিস or মোবাইল, read best in Bengali letters. Product names and slogans can stay in Latin letters, so the brand stays exact. Preview each line where the two scripts meet, and if a word still sounds wrong, add it to the pronunciation dictionary[[C067]].
