“In the biggest languages, the voices sound nearly human.”
Review on Capterra , 1 December 2022
“…an impressive natural-like array of voices and great customer support.”

Gurmukhi has small marks that change a word. The addak (ੱ) doubles the next consonant, so ਪੱਕਾ (firm, ripe) is not ਪਕਾ (cook). Tippi (ੰ) and bindi (ਂ) both mark a nasal sound, and each goes with certain vowel signs. A small ਹ, ਰ or ਵ can sit under a letter, as in ਪ੍ਰੀਤ. Check these marks before you press Play.
Punjabi is a tonal language, but no mark shows the tone. The letters do. ਘ, ਝ, ਢ, ਧ and ਭ are spoken without the breathy h their shape suggests, and the syllable carries a tone instead, as in ਘਰ (home). A ਹ inside a word, as in ਚਾਹ (tea), shifts the tone as well. So a correct spelling matters even more than usual.
Use ਤੁਸੀਂ for viewers and customers, and add ਜੀ for warmth, as in ਹਾਂ ਜੀ. Keep ਤੂੰ for friends. Written Punjabi is based on Majhi speech around Amritsar, and Malwai and Doabi listeners follow it easily. Gurmukhi digits such as ੧ and ੨ appear mostly in religious texts, so type 1, 2, 3. A fixed reading for a name can go in the pronunciation dictionary.

This page is for Punjabi as written in India, in Gurmukhi. In Pakistan, Punjabi is written in Shahmukhi, a Perso-Arabic script read from right to left, and it uses more Urdu and Persian words. For these voices, type your script in Gurmukhi. If your text is in Shahmukhi, have it transliterated first, and preview the names.
Yes. Punjabis abroad, from Brampton and Surrey to Southall, follow Punjabi as it is spoken in India. Scripts for them often mix in English words and local place names, which is natural. Keep those words in Latin letters if you prefer, and preview each line where English and Gurmukhi meet before you share it.
