Croatian is written only in the Latin alphabet, with 30 letters. Five carry marks (č, ć, đ, š, ž) and three are pairs that count as one letter (dž, lj, nj). The hard č and the soft ć are easy to swap when typing, so proofread for them. Write đak, not djak, because the voice reads the letters it is given.

Standard Croatian vocabulary differs from its neighbours in everyday words: kruh rather than hleb, tisuća rather than hiljada, vlak rather than voz. Months have Slavic names, from siječanj to prosinac, and take the genitive after a day, as in 15. svibnja. The future tense is written as two words with the final i dropped: radit ću, vidjet ćemo.

Write in the standard language heard on national television, which grew from the štokavian dialects. Kajkavian around Zagreb and čakavian on the coast and islands sound quite different. For brand names and English terms, set the reading once in the pronunciation dictionary.

Yes. Croatian has 1 male and 1 female voices. Use the gender filter above the voice list and try a few with your own first line.

Yes, on a paid plan: paid plans include commercial rights, and the Free plan is for personal and evaluation use only. Starter costs $5 for the first month, then $19 a month.

Preview the line first. If a number, date or abbreviation comes out wrong, write it the way it should be spoken, or add it to the pronunciation dictionary, which is on every plan. One entry fixes that word across the whole project.

Write in standard Croatian, which is what most listeners expect in a voice over. A script full of čakavian or kajkavian words can sound stilted. A single local touch, such as pomalo for a relaxed Dalmatian tone, usually works. Preview it, and swap any word that comes out oddly for the standard one.

Put the day first with a full stop after it to mark an ordinal: 1. listopada 2026. The month name takes the genitive, so svibanj becomes svibnja. If a figure is read in the wrong form, write the date out in words, which also fixes the case.
