Pashto uses an Arabic-based alphabet with letters of its own, including ټ, ډ, ړ, ږ, ښ, ځ, څ, ڼ and ګ. Type with a Pashto layout, not an Arabic or Persian one, so that ګ goes in rather than the Persian گ, and ږ and ښ appear as real letters. Short vowels are rarely written, so preview names and any word a listener might misread.

Pashto has several forms of ye, and each carries a different sound: ي, ی, ې, ۍ and ئ. ې ends many plurals, as in ښځې (women), and ۍ ends many feminine nouns, as in ډوډۍ. The wrong form changes the vowel and sometimes the meaning, so check word endings carefully. A name that still sounds wrong can be given a fixed reading in the pronunciation dictionary.

Pashto has two main sound groups. Around Kandahar the letter ښ sounds like sh, and the language is called Pashto. In Peshawar and much of the east it sounds like kh, giving Pakhto. Write the standard spelling either way. Use تاسو, the polite you, in public messages. Afghanistan names its solar months after the zodiac, such as حمل for the first month, so match the calendar your listeners use.

Yes. Pashto has 1 male and 1 female voices. Use the gender filter above the voice list and try a few with your own first line.

Yes, on a paid plan: paid plans include commercial rights, and the Free plan is for personal and evaluation use only. Starter costs $5 for the first month, then $19 a month.

Preview the line first. If a number, date or abbreviation comes out wrong, write it the way it should be spoken, or add it to the pronunciation dictionary, which is on every plan. One entry fixes that word across the whole project.

The voices are listed under Afghanistan, so expect Afghan pronunciation. Listeners from Peshawar and the rest of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will understand them, but may notice that some sounds, such as ښ and ږ, differ from their own Pakhto. If your audience is mainly in Pakistan, preview a few lines that contain those letters before you commit to a long script.

Follow your audience. Afghan texts usually use the Persian-style digits ۱۲۳ and the solar calendar, while texts from Pakistan follow the Gregorian calendar and often use Western digits. Spelling also varies a little between the two, especially with the forms of ye. Pick one convention for each script, keep it throughout, and preview any number or date before you generate.
