Omani Arabic runs from the Muscat coast to the mountain villages of the interior. Many speakers in Muscat and the interior keep a q sound in قال where other Gulf dialects say g, which can make Omani speech feel a little closer to Standard Arabic. Choose it for tourism, retail and community messages aimed at Omanis, from Sohar to Sur.

Oman is not one sound. The Batinah coast, the interior around Nizwa, Sur in the east and Salalah in Dhofar each have their own words and rhythm. In Dhofar many families also speak Jibbali or Mehri, separate languages rather than Arabic dialects. Write for one area when you can, and fix any dialect word that goes wrong in the pronunciation dictionary.

Centuries of Indian Ocean trade left Swahili and Baluchi words in coastal speech, so check them with a local reader before you use them. For seasonal scripts, the Salalah khareef from June to September, Muscat Nights in winter and the habta markets before Eid are moments most Omanis know.

They are neighbours and share many words, and northern Omanis and Emiratis understand each other easily. Omani speech still has its own sounds, including the q many Omanis keep. For listeners in Oman, write Omani forms; for both countries, Standard Arabic is safer.

Test it first. Dhofari Arabic differs from Muscat speech in words and intonation, and some listeners there speak Jibbali or Mehri at home. Arabic is still the shared language of signs, schools and business. Keep the wording simple, preview it, and ask a local reader to check names.
