Amharic is written in Ge'ez script, called fidel. Each character joins a consonant and a vowel, and each consonant has seven main forms: ሉ is lu, ሊ is li and ላ is la. Type with an Amharic input method that builds the right form, because one wrong form changes the vowel the voice reads. Several letters now share a sound, such as ሀ, ሐ and ኀ for h, so that choice follows spelling habit rather than pronunciation.
Fidel does not show doubled consonants, and doubling can change meaning. ዋና with a short n means swimming, and with a held n it means main. ገና can be still or Christmas. The voice picks the likelier reading, so preview lines where the context is thin, and give a stubborn word a fixed reading in the pronunciation dictionary. Use ፣ for commas and ። for full stops so the pauses fall where a reader expects.
Ethiopia keeps its own calendar and clock. The year starts on Meskerem 1 in September and runs seven or eight years behind the Western count. Hours are counted from dawn, so ጠዋት 3 ሰዓት is 9 am on a Western clock. Say which system a date or time uses. Address matters too: አንተ is you to a man, አንቺ to a woman, and እርስዎ shows respect. Ads for a wide audience often use the plural.

Preview the line first. If a number, date or abbreviation comes out wrong, write it the way it should be spoken, or add it to the pronunciation dictionary, which is on every plan. One entry fixes that word across the whole project.
It helps. Most phones and computers offer an Amharic input method that turns typed Latin letters into fidel characters. You can also paste text from a document or a website. What matters is that the text arrives as Ethiopic characters, not as a Latin transliteration, because the voices read the script. Preview a line after pasting to make sure nothing was lost or swapped.
Use ordinary digits for most scripts. Ethiopic numerals, such as ፩ for one and ፲ for ten, still appear on calendars, in church texts and on formal documents, but everyday Amharic print uses the digits 0 to 9. If you need a number read in a particular way, spell it out in Amharic words, then preview the line to confirm the reading.
